Dear Friends of the Jessup,
Many thanks to those who have volunteered to judge at Jessup Regional and National Rounds in response to my email earlier this week.
In preparation for the big event, the ILSA Executive Office invites you to serve as a volunteer judge for the Shearman & Sterling International Rounds being held April 6-12, 2008 at the Fairmont Hotel in Washington, D.C.
If you are interested in judging at the International Rounds, please register at http://www.ilsa.org/judges/. You may also use this form to sign up to judge for U.S. regional rounds. Please make sure to provide all of the requested information, including which dates and times you will be available to judge, your email address, and any conflicts with teams that you may have. If your availability changes, please go to the webpage again and resubmit your information.
Please note that our greatest need for judges at the International Rounds is during the Preliminary Rounds, which occur Monday through Wednesday, April 7-9. During that time, we have five rounds a day with as many as 16 matches per round, each match requiring three judges who have no connection to the competitors in front of the bench. Due to last-minute conflicts that often arise, we also need judges to act as "backups" during these rounds. Therefore, if you are only able to devote part of the week to judge at this year's International Rounds, please consider signing up for the beginning of the week, rather than the end.
For many years, Elizabeth Black has been our devoted Judge Coordinator. This year, however, Elizabeth is busy with her consulting work and new baby, and will not be able to perform the Coordinator duties. She will still be involved in the International Rounds so you are sure to see her throughout the week. Elizabeth's longtime Judges’ Room right hand, Rusty Dalferes, will be acting as this year's Judge Coordinator, and Rusty will be assisted by the capable Meredith Perlman, another familiar face in the Judges Room. They may be contacted directly via email at rdalferes@ilsa.org and mperlman@ilsa.org. In the coming weeks, Rusty and Meredith will be creating a master judging schedule based on the information provided through the website noted above. All individuals who sign up will be scheduled to judge.
Please note, however, that your exact judging assignment will not be confirmed until mid March.
We invite all volunteer judges to join us at the Judges' Orientation on Sunday evening (April 6) and a Special Reception for Judges and Faculty Advisors on Monday evening (April 7). Please mark your calendars now for these social events.
As always, we are very grateful for your continued dedication to the Jessup Competition. I look forward to seeing you in D.C.
Thank you!
Cheers,
Amity
